About

"Making Music With Confidence" is a Gold Award project which aims to reduce music performance anxiety and boost the confidence of young musicians everywhere. Through a four-step process, musicians are able to find important and relevant tips and tricks to learn music, practice music, warm-up before playing an instrument or singing and, most importantly, perform with confidence. This is something that many musicians face everywhere. When equipped with ways to reduce such anxieties while performing, individuals may be more willing to try out for solos, participate in festivals, and follow their passions.

Julia Froese

My name is Julia Froese and am pursuing my Gold Award. As a Girl Scout and a singer, I wanted to combine my interests by both helping my community and pursuing my passion for music. Over time, I found that I had wanted to try out for solos in choir but was too afraid to do so.

I still remember all of those opportunities that I didn't take due to the fact that I was letting my fears get the best of me. Even today, I am still a little nervous before going on stage, as it is natural to be worried about something that we care so deeply about. Therefore, I wanted to base my project around the consequences of performance anxiety by teaching younger students that they are not alone, and that there are multiple ways in which they can boost their confidence while performing. I have developed some tips and tricks on how to perform with confidence in hopes to encourage young students to follow their dreams and to teach them that if they truly want something, they should never be afraid to chase after it.

My passion for music began at a very young age, and I joined my school's choir as soon as I got the chance. As a member of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, I have had the chance to perform on a number of world-renowned stages, including Carnegie Hall, 92nd-Street Y, Lincoln Center, and Radio City Music Hall. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to sing at both Adelphi University and Queens College. Furthermore, I am a member of my school's Tri-M Music Honors Society, A Capella Club, and Choral Ensemble. I have also participated in many NYSSMA Festivals which have allowed me to be a part of the All-County Choir. Although I am a singer, I also used to be in both band and orchestra, and have learned to understand the uniqueness of both ensembles. In addition to my musical experience, Girl Scouts has been another one of my deep passions. Through this project, I hope to combine the power of music and community to create a more welcoming world.
