Practicing

Cello and music stand

Practice makes perfect! Putting in the time and the effort will undoubtedly make you more confident and prepared for the big performance. If you know that you have practiced, you should not worry about what the crowd will think because you will know that you have done everything you could to perform your best. A helpful tip would be to ask a friend if they would like to practice with you. This way, it will be a lot more fun for the both of you if you are in the same performance group. In addition, a way to get more comfortable with performing in front of others would be to play your instrument for your parent or guardian, even your pet! This way you might feel better when performing on stage. If you know the music better, you can perform the music better.

Tips

  • Practice with a friend!

By practicing with someone else, you will be more inclined to practice yourself and will have fun while doing so!

  • Find a quiet place to practice.

Try to dedicate a specific space for practicing. If you do this, you will become more accustomed to the space and will find it easier to practice your instrument when you want.

  • Never give up!

Although it can be frustrating in the beginning, you should feed into trial and error, using it as a way to boost your understanding of the score.

  • Create a routine.

If you designate time each day to practice, then it will be much easier to stay consistent. Try to write down practice sessions on a calendar or keep a To-Do list for the week.

  • Practice in front of a parent or guardian.

By performing in front of someone you know, it will allow you to get a better sense of what playing your instrument or singing in front of a crowd will be like. Try to do this a couple days before performing or even just the day before. It will make things easier if you are more accustomed to performing. Furthermore, if there is an opportunity for you to perform in front of a live audience before the actual performance that you are preparing for, don't pass it up! If you keep putting yourself out there, performing with confidence will become more natural and you will be more prepared for future endeavors to come.
