Performing

The actual performance can be scary, but it is also the most rewarding part of your preparation. Whether you are singing in a choir or playing an instrument in orchestra or band, the performance should be exciting and you should enjoy every single minute of it. Even if you are performing a solo you should feel good about all your hard work and should try to present the best of yourself on stage. Here are some tips and tricks on how to make the performance worthwhile:

-
Breathing Exercises
Although this is a well-known practice, it is still a great way to calm yourself down before a performance. This is an example of the 4-7-8 breathing technique: Breathe in for 4 beats, hold your breath for 7 beats, and finally exhale for 8 beats making a whooshing sound. This will help you feel calm before a performance and is a great tool to use in any kind of stressful situation.

-
Talk to a friend
If your friend is in your ensemble or they are also performing a solo, talk to them about how you feel. Doing this might make you less nervous knowing that someone else is going through the same thing as you. And, of course, wish them good luck!

-
Be prepared
If you have practiced and have brought all of the necessary materials to your performance, don't stress! If you are prepared then that is one less thing to worry about. Try to create a reminder list before the performance so that you do not forget anything important. Additionally, try to prepare your outfit the night before so that you are not stressed the next day looking for lost materials.

Be positive!
When you go up on stage, don't let the crowd scare you. Remember that no one wants you to fail and you are surrounded by a room of supporters. You should be proud of all the hard work and effort you have put in, so now is your time to shine.
